Here is an idea to a trading card game of my own that I made the rules for. Whether it’s good or bad or in between I would really appreciate it if you would give me constructive criticism to make try to improve upon it. Here it is.
Ideas for a Trading Card Game!!!
Initial ideas: Parallel dimensions,Different individuals in each dimension that play big roles
Name for the Game for now: Parabreak
Genre: Fantasy, science fiction, animals
Backstory: this game is about several dimensions that coexisted with each other since the dawn of time. None of the inhabitants of the dimensions knew about the other dimensions existence, so they all thought that they were alone in the universe (or so they thought).
There were 4 dimensions in total. As I told before they had no idea that there were other dimensions and about the whole dimension concept. To start with there was a dimension were humans lived and animals like earth. Most of that dimension is unexplored and only some planets had sentient life. The second dimension had beastmen. They were sentient being that looked like animals but they stood on their legs instead of all four. Same as the human dimension most planets there were unexplored.Next was mechanical dimension were science and technology had progressed far beyond than the human dimension. There were humans there at one point but they sadly created robots and androids which took over almost the whole dimension or at least the populated planet. The final dimension was a dark and very dangerous dimension were most of the stars had expired and had a supernova. Almost the whole dimension was pitch black. Al sentient life in that dimension had evolved differently that what was normal because of there were no stars left and light was nonexistent there. They looked like monsters you would only se in your imagination and they were always dark colored or even black on their exterior.
At some point, each dimension learned about the other dimensions that exited and that caused more harm than good. War broke out in all the dimensions at once since someone or different groups of individuals wanted to rule over all life. No one knew who struck first but no one was spared the horrors of war. Many were lost on battle and even more innocent people died mostly for war profit. The fighting never stopped until a legend was formed by some wise people that wanted to end this senseless fighting. The legend stated that warriors with noble hearts from each dimension were going to eventually find each other and together end the war in the universe and restore peace to the universe.
Rules and objectives:
The objective of the game is to reduce your opponents life to 0. And if the on person has no cards remaining in there deck during the match and can no longer draw from there deck that also lose. You battle in between dimensions and some recourse cards and creature cards can transport the battlefield to each of the 4 dimensions and special events and such are triggered. There must be at least 30 cards in a eligible deck and the maximum is 60 cards. If you have that so far you can challenge someone. The match is fought with creature and recourse cards. Creature cards are certain individuals and live gimmicks and other types of creatures in this game. Some are weak in pow but strong in spd and vice versa. Most creature cards have abilities that can be used to your advantage in battle and outside of battle. Some abilities are more a detriment because they might hurt your strategies more than help them so it is very important that you find cards that work well together. You take turn making your moves on the opponent and to chip away at the opponents lifepoints. Some cards can be used during the opponents turn but the conditions must met to make that happen. First you draw a card from you deck place it in your hand for imidiate use or you can hold on to it for later. You can only have 6 cards in your hand. If you have more cards than that at the end of the turn you have discard until you have six left, what cards to discard is up to the player. After you draw a card from your deck at the beginning of the turn it’s time to put your cards out there. During the main phase you can summon creature card to your field and they have three functions. One is to attack the opponents creature cards and use their pow (power points) to defeat the other creature card. The other two functions is spd (speed points) and def (defense points) more about them later on. You can also use recourse cards and place them face down on the field for later use. You can also place creature cards face down also to conceal their indentities and stats. Some creature cards have abilities that only activate when you flip them from face down to face up. After you finish setting up the field you can start fighting your opponents creature carda with your creature cards. More about the battle itself later on. After you finish that part you go into a sort of prep phase so you can set traps for your opponent and prepare for upcoming turns using both recourse cards and creature cards. Then comes the end phase and you turn it over to your opponent who start his/her turn. Only the draw phase and the end phase a obligatory with a bit of flexibility were they can be skipped if a recourse card or creature card can make that happen. In some rare cases can the turn of the opponent or your turn can be skipped but that depends on the cards played. The other phases are optional and can be skipped you would like. You always start making moves of you own on the main phase and so the draw phase and the end phase happen on their own. Once the main phase you can choose to end your turn there without making a move that turn. You can only have 5 creature card slots on the field at a time. Once they are full you can’t summon more creatures to your field. One normal summon is permitted per turn. If you manage to summon more than that it’s called multiple summon. If you summon creatures from you pocket dimension it’s called revival summon. Some creature or recourse cards permitt you to normal summon more than once.
Number based strength parameters and other parameters:
Each creature card is going to have a number based system that shows how much power that monster has to start with. They will also has a speed parameter in a similar fashion with the strength parameter. Also there will be a defense parameter that is meant to let the creature card guard against enemy attacks.
Strength parameter: as I said before the strength parameter determines a creature cards strength compared to the opponent. If my opponent has a creature card with 1000 pow and my creature card had 800 pow the opponent would win in a straight up fight. If the roles were reversed I would win that fight. Depending on the power of the creature card there would be a winner and a loser of the battle and the loser would (to put it bluntly) die and be sent somewhere. That would be the discard pile but more about that in a different topic that explains that in more in depth.
Speed parameter: this would the agile ness of the creature card and more specifically avoid attacks from the opponents creature cards. It isn’t as easy as a creature card avoiding an attack from the opponents creature card and that’s it. If you decide to use the speed function to save your creature card from the opponents attack you have to pay a price from your lifepoints. If the opponents creature card failed to take down your creature card the damage would have taken from the battle would be added with extra damage. That would be about half of the amount of speed your creature card has after the battle is fought. Since your creature loses spd based on the pow of the opponents creature card. If you don’t have the spd necessary from the get go than your creature card can’t survive the battle. Every creature card has spd with some exception. Some creature cards might 0 spd.
Defense parameter: Every creature has a defensive feature that allows them to guard against enemy attacks. If the def point are higher that opponents pow than that my creature card successfully deflected the attack. But each time this feature is used the power of the creature card weakens and that creature card loses a bit of pow if the defense held up. They would lose about 20% of their pow each time the player decides to defend the creature card using it’s own defense. That means every creature card can initially keep this up about 5 times give or take. If the defense to weak and the def is lower than the pow of the opponent than the defense is useless and you have explore other ways of to keep that creature card on the field.
Recourses:
They can be from tools from creature cards to traps fro the opponent etc. for each dimension there is a different type of recourse card that only a creature card from that dimension can use. Other cards are more universal and flexible. Some recourse cards can only be used if timing is perfect. A specific creature must be on the field or in the discard or in your hand or even in your deck to be used. Others cards have different effects that can be triggered mostly once and then there are some that can be multiple times if the conditions are met. There will be a large veriety of different cards available as the game progresses.
Discard pile and destruction:
The discard pile will be called the the pocket dimension. It’s a space were all creature that have been defeated go to. There are recourse cards that can bring them back to field, hand or deck.
Player info and parameters:
The player has a lifepoint system were they start out with 5000 lifepoints. There are creature or recourse cards that can you give extra lifepoints and the opposite can happen were they can take away either your lifepoints or the opponents lifepoints. That can be useful in the match.
Archtypes:
There will be 4 archtypes, one for each dimension and then the archtypes will beach out to different tribes and civilization etc. each archtypes has a creatures and recourse card that are similar to the theme of the archtype that can be very useful when you make a deck with one or two archtypes in mind.
Different types of creature cards and in recourse cards:
There will 4 fundamental types since there are 4 dimensions in this game. Like in the lore there will be humans, beastmen, machines and Dark creatures. All of them can be stronger if different cards are used to either power up the stats of that creature or you can promote that creature and summon a totally different creature to the field with better stat and other abilities. There will be different other types such as warriors, healers, defenders, creature with lots of speed etc.
The difficulty to summon or use a creature card with a high mark:
Every creature card will have a status marker on the card which determines their strength and how easy it will be summon them. Most cards have a low status marker and can be summon without anything if nothing else is stated on the card. Those with high status markers must be summoned through promotion or tribute. Some creature cards can be summoned using recourse card but the conditions have to be met for that to happen. Other creature with high status markers can be summoned without promotion or tribute, but some condition must be met that the creature card specifies. Here is a summon chart where summoning monster with different status markers are explained.
1-4: can be summoned without any promotion or tribute. If the card says otherwise then follow the instructions instead.
5 and 6: you can send 1 creature card from you field to the pocket dimension to promote them to creatures with 5 or 6 status markers.
7 and above: creatures with 7 or higher status markers must be summoned by sending 2 or more (depending on the card) creature cards from the field to pocket dimension to summon them. That is called a tribute summon.
Exceptions: exceptions can be made when recourse are involved. Some can summon high status creatures without promoting or tributing anything if the conditions are met. Some recourse cards can let you summon low status creature more than once.
